Caller ID is a phone number and name sent along with a call for identification. A VoiceIP PBX can display or a change both incoming and outgoing caller id to provide different services.
Alert by Caller Id
Incoming calls for an emergency line can be labelled appropriately to separate them from normal calls. This increases the likelihood that calls with a higher importance will be answered with greater priority.
Changing Your Outgoing Caller ID
With a VoiceIP Pbx, the caller id attached to the outgoing call can be set to read as coming from any number. This can have many uses depending upon the needs of the business. Some clients prefer to have all calls read as coming from the front desk for centralization.
Department Caller ID
Sections within a company can have a different caller id assigned to them, to help personal differentiate an intercororate call verses an outside connection. Customers are also made aware of what department of the company they are currently talking to.
