Asterisk

Asterisk Platform Information

Asterisk is an open-source telephony server that runs on the Linux operating system. By using IEEE approved open source software and redundant hardware, the reliability of a phone system is increased.

Overhead in purchase and operation of a business is also reduced when it can communicate using all availaible voice protocols, and has the means to connect to the most cost efficient line type.

VoiceIP Solutions is a certified Polycom Reseller, providing a broad product range of high-quality VoIP Phones that interoperate with Asterisk servers. VoiceIP Solutions also carries the full line of Kirk DECT wireless solutions and Polycom Video Conferencing Gear and Axis Video-Over-IP camera systems to allow clients to add premises security technologies to their data networks.

By supporting a mix of traditional and VoIP telephony services, Asterisk allows deployers to build new telephone systems, or gradually migrate existing systems to new technologies. Some sites are using Asterisk servers to replace proprietary PBXes; others to provide additional features (such as voice mail or voice response menus, or virtual call shops) or to reduce costs by carrying long-distance calls over the Internet (toll bypass).
