The phone systems can be provisioned with a variety of interface options including 1,2&4 port T1/E1 PRI interface cards, analog line cards & BRI interface cards. Asterisk platforms can be configured in clusters or stand alone with automated recovery for high-availability implementations.

Asterisk includes a powerful scripting environment and can be extended via APIs and a powerful TCP/IP manager interface. It can be linked to SQL databases and can provide text-to-speech functionality using add-on third party software. Asterisk has an active development community and a wide variety of 3rd party add-on applications are available.
