Telephone or PBX line termination refers to the connection between one phone system and another. When the destination of a call is outside of the local network, a pbx will hand the call off to a carrier which usually has a larger communications network. The choice of line type to use depends upon factors such as geography and cost.

Copper Telephone Lines

The public switched telephone network in some areas might consist of copper wire lines. These networks were some of the first established communication infrastructure, and continue to provide service in many areas.

Fiber Optic

Newer communication lines might use fiber optic cable, due to its speed and the higher cost of copper. In contrast to utp copper ethernet wire which make up most networks, plastic is not affected by electric fields. This factor means that less signal loss takes place. Backbones of telecommunications companies are like;y to employ fiber optic cable.
